Swak Akkommodasie Ondervinding By Amble House Haenertsburg

Hello Peter

Below is my 2 emails to Amble inn to get feedback. After a week of waiting for a reply, all we got back is that they won’t pay any money back and that we can stay there again for free.

Regards,

Christelle van Niekerk

Hi Christelle

My name is George and I am Lara’s husband. I have read through your e-mail and agree that, yes you did not receive a welcome form the owners in five star fashion. However, this is not Sandton, and you will find that all the guesthouses operate like our does, a family run business.

We tried to contact you a number of times during the first day and into that night, and we had no response. You never afforded us the chance to fix what you were unhappy with. I have spoken to fellow guesthouse owners in the area , and have consulted with my lawyer, and we feel that your request for a refund is unreasonable. However, you have paid us in full, and we are quite happy to honour your booking. I assure you that you will get mine and Lara’s personal attention at all times. Should you wish to book with us, please let us know dietary requirements , allergies etc. Unfortunately we cannot do anything about the bees. We have tried to move them, but they keep coming back. We cannot exterminate them as they are endangered and highly protected in our area.

Kind regards

George Luis

Hello Lara

Its been a week since I sent my first email. How is it possible that after my complaint I still haven’t had any feedback?

Good Morning Lara

I hope you had a good Christmas and New year’s.

Unfortunately luck was not on our side and I think it’s important to inform you about this.

This was my first Christmas away from friends and family and we had great plans to make it just as special as always. We decided to go to Haenertsburg on recommendation of friends who had an amazing December vacation there a few years ago. We love hiking and cycling and from what they said and what I read on the internet and websites, this was the perfect area. Johann and his brother also did a bike tour through the area a while ago and it made perfect sense.

Booking accommodation in an area that you’ve never staid before is always tricky, so you go on Pictures, location and descriptions and most important, affordability. I looked at Booking.com, TripAdvisor, SA Traveller and many more sights and saw that Booking.com has the biggest variety and best prices. There were at least 6 places in our price range with availability and great mountain bike routes, hiking routes and restaurants so the only thing we could go on in pictures. Attached is the screenshots I took when we started looking at accommodation. Can you honestly say that this is what we came across on the day of arrival at Amble Inn?

I’m not a unreasonable person and I understand that the weather was an issue, but that the only reasonable excuse. Having a Christmas lunch the next day is no excuse not to welcome your guests at your establishment. We kept in contact with you throughout our trip from PTA on your request so that you could be there when we arrive. If you had a reception area or someone to help us it would also have been understandable, but your daughter didn’t know who we were or which room was ours. Also, when you advertise a beautiful room with a patio, why not then also advertise the room at the back with no view and a shared bathroom, that we got. False advertising is not appreciated when paying R6000. Keeping in mind that your establishment isn’t self-catering which means we had do add 2 meals at restaurants per day.

A few other issues:

1. We sat in the car for 15min not knowing if we were at the right place, because we were looking for what we saw on the pictures in the first place and in the second place because no out to greet us. I had to walk around calling when your daughter came out of the kitchen.

2. There was a broken tomato sauce bottle on the patio with glass that the cats and dogs were licking up.

3. The patio was really not welcoming and you realised this yourself.

4. Our room was NOT what we expected and it had a shared bathroom. I haven’t seen this since college when we stayed in backpackers in Knysna. Even though you said there was no one in the other room, this is not the message we got on arrival.

5. Your daughters apron was of a naked woman. Some people might think this is arty and cut, but do you think this caters for all guests on arrival?

6. Our room overlooked a wall with a bees nest. As much as I would love bees to build nest everywhere, both of us are allergic.

7. After we left no one even gave us a call to ask why.

Although this might all sound like petty complaints, add them all together and hopefully you will understand our situation.

The major problem is that we the had 2 options, either try and book another hotel/guesthouse or go back home. Booking somewhere else was almost impossible. All the networks where down, when you phone places they are either fully booked or have scattered nights available or we had to pay another R10 000  to stay at a place that could give us 4 nights in a row. We are not backpackers. We are organised travellers who want to relax, pack our clothes out, have a set parking, have set breakfast times, daily cleaners etc. If we have to pay R6 000 and we don’t have these requirements, we could just as well have stayed home.

This then lead to our only other option. We got one night at Tambotie lodge in Tzaneen and then drove home…On Christmas day. This was not how we imagined my first December holiday to be like and surely not being on the road on Christmas day.

I would appreciate if you are willing do agree on a re-fund percentage. I know you do not have a re-fund policy, but under the circumstance this R6 000 for accommodation is by far not the only money we are losing.

We would love to one day be able to return to Haenertsburg without this bitter taste in our mouths.

Regards,

Christelle van Niekerk

SWAK DIENS AUDI RUSTENBURG

Aangesien terugvoer vanaf mnr.
Dit laat my werklik magteloos.

Dankie,
